WINGS BOOSTS HD POWER
February 27, 2010

Classic Hits Wings is broadcasting in HD Radio (TM) technology! What does that mean? - Have you wished you could get the same clarity of sound from your radio as you do from your CD? - Or that your radio signal didn't fade out just when you wanted to listen to your favorite radio program? Well, now you can.

HD Radio (TM) is a technology destined to revolutionize the AM and FM broadcasting industry. Approved by the FCC as the digital broadcast system for the radio industry, the noise and interference that cause the static, hiss, pops and fades heard on today's analog radios will be virtually eliminated with HD Radio (TM) digital broadcasting. In addition to crystal clear reception, HD Radio (TM) will dramatically enhance sound fidelity - AM will sound FM-like, and FM will rival the quality of compact discs.

So just think, you can hear your favorite radio program in its purest, clearest digital form. Your favorite artists will sound awesome... crystal clear...straight from the recording studio!

HD Radio (TM) technology also allows for Multi-Casting which gives you more options. In addition to the programming you're used to hearing on Wings, you can now tune into HD2, a BRAND NEW radio channel, and hear our sister station, WANI NewsTalk 1400 and 98.7 FM. But, you can ONLY hear it with a new HD Radio with Multi-Casting technology.

To hear your favorite radio program in its purest digital form, you will need a special HD Radio (TM) receiver for either your car of home audio system. The good news is that the station you listen to will remain on the same dial position and you can still hear your local programming with your current analog radio. But if you have a new HD Radio (TM) receiver you will hear us in our new digital format.

These units are available now in consumer electronics stores (check with local retailers). Ask for it by name. HD Radio (TM).

HOW DOES IT WORK? Basically, digital radio works the same as conventional radio. There’s a signal on one end and a receiver on the other. But there are a few key differences. [1] Instead of sending out one analog signal, stations send out a bundled signal – both analog and digital. Because it is digital, textual data such as traffic, stock info and song titles can be sent out, as well. [2] The digital signal layer is compressed. [3] The combined analog and digital signals are transmitted. [4] Inevitably, radio signals bounce off objects, causing what is called multipath distortions. This is what causes the static in conventional radio receivers. HD Digital radio receivers are designed to sort through reflected signals, reducing static, hiss, pops and fades. [5] Finally, the signals reach their destination. Both broadcasts are free, with no subscription fee. To hear the digital broadcast, all you need is an HD Radio receiver.
